Guilford Young took on Hutchins at Hutchins School this afternoon in the Southern SATIS Boys Basketball 1st Grade Finals.

There’s a strong rivalry between these two teams and they have beaten each other previously this season, so this was always going to be a hard-fought game.  Hutchins, the home team, had plenty of support from their local crowd which provided an exciting atmosphere to the game.

The first quarter was very close with only a single point advantage to Guilford Young at quarter time (15-14), but inch by inch GYC worked that lead and managed to capitalize on every small mistake Hutchins made, while Hutchins were doing everything they could to claw back, but somehow weren’t quite able to do the same in return.

The final score was 56-44 in Guilford Young’s favour, but the game felt closer than that.  Hutchins deserve a lot of credit for their team’s performance and they were terrific hosts.

Congratulations to the Guilford Young team on their victory and for becoming Southern Champions, and we will see how they fare next week in the Statewide final.
